Piotr Szurek was born in 1958 in Stęszew. In 1987 he graduated from the State Higher School of Fine Arts in Poznań. In the same year, he also received a diploma with honors in graphic arts in the studio of prof. Tadeusz Jackowski. Currently a professor at the Institute of Fine Arts of the University of Zielona Góra. For years, Piotr Szurek has been fascinated by one motif, one - basically - kind of expression. The central element is the head. These are self-portraits of the author's mental states, not his external features, made in metal graphic techniques. They all bear the same title "Self-portrait", which astonishes the viewer with the type of technique used and the monumental format. He deals with workshop graphics, drawing and painting.
